For most people, gas costs are normally spent on the commute to work. If, like most people, you work a 9 to 5 job and spend 40 hours a week at work, you may find yourself in traffic often and spend a large sum of money on gas for the week. Morning and evening commutes can be especially costly because of the large amounts of traffic that cause a hold up on busy highways. The weekly commute can be irritating and cost major money. Here are three ways to help decrease the price of the weekly work commute.
The first way to decrease the price of the commute is to find an alternate route. One worry about finding an alternate route is that the time to get to work will take longer, but this may not be the case. An alternate route that avoids major traffic can decrease the time spent in traffic. Even if an alternate route is slightly more miles than the previous route, not sitting in traffic can decrease the amount of gas that is wasted just waiting.
A second method for saving on the weekly commute is carpooling. If you live in an area that houses several other coworkers, taking turns driving to work each day will cost everyone less money significantly. Taking turns driving to work with coworkers, or setting up a carpool for those who work and live in the same area as you will save money on the commute.
Third, a good way to save money on the weekly commute is to cut down the price of your car and car insurance. If you have a car that is cheaper and save on your insurance premium by insurance bargain hunting, you can save much more money on your commute. Decreasing your overall car ownership costs and decreasing the time spent in traffic will cut down on the costs of your weekly commute.

Good tips! I usually look for an alternate route when I see there is a lot of traffic on my main route. You’re right about the gas savings…my alternate route is a few miles longer, but because I am constantly moving, I use less gas and get home about the same time.
